There comes a time in every armchair street shooter’s life when he has to go out and actually shoot some street. That’s what I’ll be doing today in Londontown.
So if you see a person shooting with the lens cap on, that’ll most likely be me.

In my bag:
I’ve been thinking about branding and style, recently. I figured that one possible way (but not the only way) to think about this would be to study the things that I use to create my images.
I owe a debt of gratitude to a friend who made this bag possible, and especially to my wife, who tolerates my obsession.
First, I have no idea what kind of bag this is. If anyone knows, send me a message with the info. I cannot seem to find anything that matches it exactly.
The camera and lens combo that is taking these pictures is my very trusted Nikon D7000 with a Nikkor 28-105mm f/3.5-4.5 AF-D lens. No apologies, this is a great camera. I use this with the Nikkor 35mm DX AF-S f/1.8 and the Tokina AT-X Pro II 11-16mm f/2.8 lenses pictured here.
Also, because Nikon was so thoughtful and decided to preserve the original f-mount from its inception, I also use every other lens on this table on my D7000.
The film camera body shown here is like a dream-come-true. I used to wish for a Leica M, but I’ve found the Nikon FM2n to be super in all regards. It boasts an all-mechanical design that operates without any batteries. Only the LED meter function is dependent on a couple watch batteries. The FM2n also supports flash-sync speeds of 1/250th of a second (the first to do so), and a top shutter speed of 1/4000th of a second. Not bad for 1982 technology;-)
Lenses that I use with the film camera include a rebuilt Nikkor 50mm f/1.4 AI, a Nikkor 135mm f/2.8 Series E, and a Quantaray 24mm f/2.8 Macro. Color rendition on the Quantaray is not always true on film due to a funny coating, but it’s sharp enough for now. The 50mm is my favorite and the 135mm is just classic and beautiful.
I cary a notebook and pen for writing thoughts, plans, and details about conversations that I might have with clients and strangers. Also, not shown is a Black-Rapid R-strap, 6 filters including a polarizer, a warming filter, a split gradient, a soft focus, a skylight, and a silly cross-star filter that I don’t like to admit to owning.
I cary films in various fashions, memory cards, cleaning supplies, and various other items.
The shots seen here were lit with an AB800, a reflective umbrella, and powered by a Vagabond Mini. I love the light.
